I'm wondering, perhaps the head was a part of another full statue but wound up being knocked off at one point. I'm also thinking that if it isn't meant to be in this spot originally, maybe it was put on a pedistal to keep patrons praying and honoring the Buddha.

Other than that, I find the image neat.
